Cais do Sodré Model (c. 1500)

Filipe Castro, Glenn Grieco

This research model was an attempt to understand the hull shape of a derelict found in Lisbon, in 1995, during excavation works for the construction of a subway station.  The ship was disassembled but the timbers were left to dry and warped considerable.

All timbers recorded were modeled at a 1:20 scale and assembled over a straight keel to try to reconstruct the shape of the bottom of this vessel, which was carbon-dated to the late 15th or early 16th century.
